In the Beginning...

Greetings to one and all. In this blog I hope to explain the landscape of our society and government through the lens of politics and economics. It will be part education, part commentary and completely politically incorrect. Whether you agree with me or not, my hope is to spark debate and challenge beliefs in search of the truth and "a more perfect union." Well thought-out rebuttals as well as concurrence are welcome and encouraged.

The basis of my thoughts come from the Constitution of the United States, Austrian economics and current thinkers whom I will introduce to you on our journey. I am compelled to share my thoughts with you in this format because I sincerely believe our liberties are being eroded on a daily basis, our currency is on unstable ground along with our economy and we as citizens are allowing it to happen because we have been lulled to sleep (figuratively) by the comforts and affluence we enjoy. Politically I am a libertarian leaning conservative who thinks the only thing worse than voting for a Republican in these times is voting for a Democrat. Similarly, I believe the U.S. dollar is the worst and weakest currency in existence, except for all the rest. We are in the midst of a generational shift on many fronts and the way we choose to respond to those challenges will determine the future of our nation. At the very least I hope to get you to think about these challenges we face and the best way to handle them.

Thank you for accompanying me on this journey and please pass along word of this blog to others interested in making the United States more prosperous and its people more liberty minded.

I appreciate that you are taking a stance in the political arena...how refreshing. I also agree that American affluence is probably degrading us more as a human race than anything else. This is evidenced by the rudeness that people display to each other on a regular basis in traffic, store lines, on cell phones, etc. It is hard to believe how far basic manners have eroded. And we won't even get into the erosion of the family unit.

Nonetheless, I have to admit that I don't believe that affluence itself is the underlying evil. Essentially, I don't think Americans have an understanding of when to temper competition. While I believe in a competitive market place to assist the economy overall, the backlash is that many of us take competition to a new level in our everyday lives. What is even more saddening is when competition overtakes opportunities for collaboration. After all is said and done, it is our relationships with other people that often define out lives.

If you don't believe me, think of your 80th birthday. What memories do you think you will cherish at that age...the balance of your bank account or the friends and family that made your life meaningful? If your answer was the bank account, then you have let competition erode your life.

I look forward to your comments in the future on politics and economics...even if I don't always agree with them.
